Water cannons fired by Israeli police for dispersing anti-government protests

Water cannons were fired by the Israeli police for dispersing thousands of people who were protesting against the government on Saturday. The crowd gathered to raise their voices against the government’s response to the growing epidemic.

The protestors gathered outside the residence of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Micky Rosenfeld, the police spokesman said that the protests were allowed to take place but action had to be taken when there was unauthorised disturbances like road blockages.

The protestors showed their frustration against the new restrictions imposed on the closing of shops, markets and other public venues on weekends. The protesters stated that the government failed to improve the testing capacity despite the rising cases of COVID-19.

The protestors even sprayed pepper spray at the police in Tel Aviv which led to multiple arrests. In the beginning of April, around 57.5% people supported Mr. Netanyahu’s coronavirus management.
