Several Petitions were filed before the Allahabad High Court and the Supreme Court, with respect to the manner in which the Police had handled the Vikas Dubey Case. Few have also alleged the involvement of political factors.
The next day of the encounter, i.e on July 11th, the Uttar Pradesh Government, taking cognizance of the matter, has appointed a special investigation team (SIT) to conduct further investigation of the entire episode. Additional Chief Secretary, Sanjay Bhusreddy has been appointed as the head of the team.
The SIT team shall at the end of the investigation submit a detailed report that shall include particulars such as the details of the complaints received and 60 criminal cases filed against Vikas Dubey, the charges filed against him, the procedure of the investigation adopted and the step by step progress made by the police, reasons for clearance of weapon license of the accused, any possibility of negligence on part of the police in investigation, steps taken for cancellation of bail and number of police officers involved on the whole. The team has been directed to submit the report by July 31.
