KULBHUSHAN JADHAV HAS REJECTED TO FILE A REVIEW PETITION, CLAIMS PAKISTAN GOVERNMENT

Pakistan’s Attorney General speaking on behalf of the Pakistan Government has claimed that Indian National Kulbhushan Jhadav has preferred to go ahead with his pending mercy plea instead of filing a review petition.

The Pakistan Government through a press note had revealed that the death-row convict was offered with the opportunity to reconsider the penalty, also offering second consular access to him. The law of the land was amended to allow the convict to exercise his legal right

The Kulbhushan Jadhav case began in April 2017 when a Pakistani military court had sentenced him to death on the charges of “espionage and terrorism”. In response India had filed an appeal to the International Court of Justice challenging the death sentence and also appealing to enable the provision of consular access to the accused.

Pakistan’s Government has hence  abided by the ICJ ruling. Kulbhushan Jadhav was represented by Senior Advocate Harish Salve at the ICJ in July last year.
