RMRC Dibrugarh becomes the 4th Laboratory in India to isolate COVID-19 Virus Strain
Regional Medical Research Centre,  Regional centre of Indian council of Medical Research at Assam has isolated the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus strain successfully. This will help in conducting studies on COVID 19 related studies such as development of a potential vaccine to making other uses of cultures of the SARS-COV-2 for the development of therapeutic antibodies, testing effectiveness against disinfectants  etc.
•The importance of isolation of the COVID-19 virus by Regional centre of Indian council of Medical Research is live and viable SARS-CoV-2 virus can now be produced in abundance in the lab as and when required.
•Isolation of the COVID-19 virus is significant ad it can develop inactivated COVID-19 vaccine where virus grown in laboratory are inactivated by heat or chemical and purified for use as vaccines after pre-clinical and clinical trials.
•SARS-CoV-2 virus culture have some other uses ad well , it can be used for drug screening for potential drugs or drug candidates against the virus.
