NCLT had asked the government to appoint two nominees to the governing body of Delhi Gymkhana Club and also, set-up a five-member committee to look into the alleged “irregularities”.
NCLT in its order stated that the Delhi Gymkhana will not be allowed to make any policy decisions, appoint new members, or begin new constructions during the time its being taken over by the Centre. It set the next date for hearing on 7 September when the committee of 5 members will submit the report.
Centre has stated and clarified reasons for taking over Delhi Gymkhana to be nepotism, financial irregularities, misuse of allocated land and issues with respect to membership. The Delhi Gymkhana has been under investigation for 3 years now. The order states 2 things. Firstly, the Gymkhana is allowed to continue with its administration and Secondly, the two nominees that will be appointed will fill up the vacancies, in other words, government will have control over these vacancies.
