High Court of Delhi imposes costs of Rs 25,000 on a party that shall be used for the purchase of PPE Kits

A writ petition was filed in Delhi High Court where the respondent, North Delhi Municipal Corporation was directed to file a response within 2 weeks. However the respondent failed to file a Counter Affidavit within the stipulated time. Furthermore, they also failed to file an application seeking condonation of delay. Thus the court directed them to provide the Hospitals with PPE kits worth Rs. 25,000.
The court observed,
“In view of the global pandemic, resulting in the countrywide lockdown, there is constant apprehension of contracting the disease
from anyone. It is the need of the hour that those engaged in the frontlines of dealing with the pandemic and the resultant casualties are provided protective gear.”
