High Court of Delhi took suo motu cognisance on the basis of news reports that reported non payment of salary to the resident doctors in certain hospitals. The DMC contended that such salaries were not paid due to financial constraints. It was contended by the Additional Solicitor General that the Delhi government has made the payment to DMC and we’re ready to pay additional amount if necessary.
After taking into account the submissions the Delhi High Court held that the amount given by the Delhi Government to the Delhi Municipal Corporation shall be used for payment of the outstanding salaries of such doctors for the Month of April. Moreover, such amount cannot be held back by the Municipal Corporation unnecessarily.
