A massive fire engulfed the oil well of assam. The of oil India limited has blown out on 27th May and the gas has been leaking since 14 days. Huge damages has been caused due to this accident. The smoke after the fire engulfed the oil well was seen from 10 km radius. The Indian Air Force has been helping in firefighting operations. The Indian Army has also reached the place and is in operation. Since the time of gas leak the National Disaster Response Force team was deployed at the oil well.
This incident is having major environmental impacts such as
• It is depositing gas condensate in the Maguri Beel Wet Land.
• Affecting the flora and fauna of the region.
• This incident has also affected aquatic life, Carcasses of endangered Gangetic dolphins and aquatic life are seen floating in the Dibru-Saikhowa National park.
• The paddy fields, wetlands and ponds have also been contaminated and the threats are increasing.
People living near this natural gas producing well which are approx 6000 in number have been evacuated. Rs 30,000 has been announced for these affected families.
